Reducing our energy consumption and carbon intensity
Solar panels (Leers site) – 13/06/24
Towards lower consumption
Because we are an industrial company, our energy consumption has a major impact on the environment : especially natural gas, which is the fossil energy we consume the most. However, for the time being, it remains essential for our factories’ operation. Because of its impact, we must reduce our consumption and purchase biomethane, which has a smaller carbon footprint. We aim to limit our electricity consumption and produce low-carbon energy locally.
Objective 1 : Decarbonise our electricity consumption
Reducing our electricity consumption
Percentage of self-generated electricity consumption (solar energy)
Testimonial :
“Since electricity prices increased significantly two years ago, we have been thinking hard about our consumption. We have taken on the challenge of designing our own photovoltaic panel and shading structures, installing 5,000 solar panels on the roofs of our production sites in 2023. This initiative means we can now use local and renewable energy to meet one-quarter of our electricity needs.”
Alexandre Paur, Technical Product Manager
Objective 2 : Reduce our natural gas consumption
Reducing our gas consumption
Percentage of biomethane* (RES**) in our gas consumption
*Biomethane = 100% renewable gas often produced from food waste
**RES = Renewable Energy Source
Testimonial :
“To reduce our energy consumption, we chose to adapt our working hours according to the amount of sun our solar panels received. What has also changed my daily life is that we shifted the hours on the paint line to maximise filling and reduce dry periods. These practices have enabled us to reduce our gas consumption by 10% over two years.“
Alexandre Dahmani, Paint Line Manager
