Raw materials
Choosing certified and ethical materials
Our steel coils (Lys-Lez-Lannoy site) – 11/09/24
Responsible and local procurement
The source and quality of our raw materials are a growing concern in our purchasing strategy. We use high-quality materials that are produced while respecting human rights. We want to improve how we source our raw materials to create more sustainable products.
Therefore, we will initiate discussions with our suppliers in 2025 with an eye to better controlling our value chain and identifying future partnerships.
As a citizen of our region, we choose the most local option as often as possible: currently, 40% of our suppliers are located within 200 km of our site, 90% within 1,000 km, and 99% of our supplies are located in Europe.
Objective 1 : Implement responsible sourcing for our steels
Percentage of steel from suppliers adhering to transparency initiatives on ore origin
Testimonial :
Raphaël, still on a secret mission, used AI to protect his anonymity.
“Because we purchase15,000 tonnes of steel per year, we want to buy high-quality materials as close to home as possible to ensure we improve responsiveness while reducing our carbon footprint. By buying in Europe or directly at our French borders, we can limit our fuel consumption by choosing road or rail transport instead of ship.“
Raphaël Clapcich, Purchasing Manager
Objective 2 : Responsible sourcing for our wood
Percentage of raw materials that include FSC and PEFC* certified wood
*FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) are international labels guaranteeing that wood comes from sustainably managed forests.
Obtaining FSC certification for our wood products by 2026
Testimonial :
“We follow the same approach for our wood purchases as for our steel : We buy as close to home as possible to combine quality and environmental responsibility. For wood, one of our suppliers is less than forty-five minutes away, which helps us minimise our carbon footprint. Our quest for sustainability also involves recycling our wood scrap to reduce waste and reuse our materials.”
Raphael Clapcich, Purchasing Manager
Objective 3 : Incorporate steel having a low carbon impact
Average percentage of recycled and/or reused materials in our products (steel)
